First Update.

Hi again you guys -

So 2 weeks ago or so, I posted the first update with no new news on our outrageous electric bill we could not figure out. I am here to update you all that our property manager finally personally came out to our condo with an electrician and within 5 minutes of inspecting our home and our meter, admitted that the wiring is entirely wrong and does not even reflect nearly the usage he and I would actually be paying for.

I wasn't personally inside with them, so I'm relaying this on behalf of my husband, but he said that the manager himself admitted that our meter was actually hooked up to a higher powered area and we'd been paying for that since we moved in. I don't know if he means another unit, multiple units, outdoor, indoor foyer area in the building - all I know is that a certified electrician found the problem and they admitted their wrong doing. NOW, we're wondering where we go from here. My parents have been keeping up with this issue and have been all gung ho that he and I demand to be reimbursed for the entire year we've lived here via the property management company. As great as this all sounds, I don't know how realistic it is. My husband argues that sure, they may say, "Well you have to understand that you would have had a bill, regardless if it was right or wrong, so we aren't reimbursing you for all of it but we've estimated what you would have spent and are reimbursing you for that," but that they're in the wrong because at this point, the full reimbursement is for the trouble we've endured during this process of figuring it all out. The manager came here on Friday 5/25 and said we'd hear back with a conclusion this week after he met with the landlord/owner. We figured we'd give them some leeway since it was just a holiday weekend, but we haven't heard a thing yet.

Also - I went ahead and started a case with the BBB against our electric company for talking down to us and refusing to take the issue seriously even though they also admitted that we were clearly not just paying for our own usage. I got a call from the electric company to discuss my claim within 48 hours. I have not yet responded to them because I'm not yet sure of whose issue this is - theirs or my property building's. Still waiting on my property's response before I involve the electric company in it all.

Now, what would you guys do? How would you handle this now that we have the proof and a confession - what would you ask for? Full reimbursement, and if so, how do we argue that? My parents have offered their lawyer as a back up plan in case they say they aren't doing anything about it - but that's a stretch to me. Let me hear your opinions and as always, they're appreciated!
