Hey guys, figured this might be a good place to post this...
Yesterday morning was a nightmare. I'll save you the long details, but long story short i got up at 5:15 AM for a flight to Chicago at 7:15 AM LAX-Ohare. We were notified around 6:45 AM (right around the time we were supposed to be boarding) that the plane had mechanical issues and would be delayed to 8AM departure. I called American Airlines told them to cancel my flight so i can get a refund and just book with a different airline, that did not work however since there were no affordable last minute flights. I told the lady on the phone, the airline worker that forget it and not to cancel my flight, she said 'luckily you said to stop now, i was 2 clicks away from your flight being canceled' Turns out she did in fact cancel my flight and was unaware. I had to then go to customer service get my tickets back, only to find out the flight had then been delayed to 9am and a gate change. Another 2 delays and now the flight was supposed to leave at 11am and i finally decided to cancel and pay to fly united instead, which i just made the flight by 2 minutes...
Long story very short, the original American Airlines flight ended up leaving at 12:30 in the afternoon as opposed to 7:15 AM, that said, is there a way i can get compensated in some way (free airline voucher or anything) if i call in and complain? Any pro tips are appreciated! Sorry for the boring story just was a rough morning in this is a half vent/looking for advice to get compensated if possible. Thanks!
