Took my Toyota into the shop today because it had been whining on cold start. Turns out my power steering rack / gear assembly had been leaking fluid.
The dealership quoted me $2250 to replace the assembly, add new fluid, replace a belt, and align my tires. I told him it was too much and he offered to delay replacing the belt and quoted me $1950. Then I asked if there was any sort of discount he could apply and he got me to $1750. Still hurts but $500 in savings is not bad. Serves as a good reminder that you can always ask for a discount, especially on big purchases.
