After doing my taxes with TurboTax, I was coerced into signing up for Intuit's "Turbo" product. Among other things (not 100% clear what else) they monitor my credit. I didn't think I needed this - I do the three credit bureaus every year and also have Credit KArma.
But Turbo uncovered a report from Navient showing I'm more than a year behind in payments. This had not shown up in other reports.
I called Navient and, after updating the information they showed for me, which was more than 10 years old, they confirmed that the report was true. They also confirmed that I had two loans with them - one which I actually did pay off.
And that's the thing, I didn't think I had more than one loan with them. I paid the other one off about a year or two ago. For that loan - tied to my same social security number - we received all of the relevant bills and information at my current address, which means they had the means to contact me about this. They claim to have sent a ton of mailings both to the address they had on file (which, as I said, we moved from more than a decade ago) as well as to the emergency contact (my mother, who passed away 13 years ago).
But I know for a fact they had my updated information because of the other loan that I paid off. At that time, I thought I was done with them. But, apparently, there was another loan.
Any advice on how I should proceed here? Having typed all this, I think my next steps will be for them to send me everything they have on BOTH loans. I have a sneaking suspicion, I'm being double tagged on this loan - that there was only one, but they show two erroneously.
Any other thouhts?
