I've never been in a situation like this before, and I'm just looking for some information on how to do my taxes in the US this year. Hopefully it can easily be put into a program that files it.
So I'm a US citizen and my wife is a permanent resident with a SSN. We've currently been living overseas for the last six months and currently do not have a residence in the USA. We've earned literally only a few dollars in taxable income this year (a few dollars in interest from a savings account). We did sell our home in June, but it was our primary residence and the total sale price was only 130K, and I've been told that needs to be reported but isn't taxable. We also haven't had health insurance this year, because we were moving to a country where health care was affordable, and also because my wife is covered under universal care in Australia and possibly Thailand as well. We haven't earned any other income this year, not in the US or overseas.
