Hello all. Before we get started, I’m a 24 year old male, and as the title says, this is my first time being laid off.
So because it was “just business” I was laid off last week without any warning. One minute I’m eating lunch, the next I’m told to go to a meeting to hear I’m getting laid off. What’s worse, it was from I job I really liked and had no complaints from my co-workers, managers, or clients.
I have everything I need to file for unemployment, so I will likely do that once I swallow my pride. I hear pride can’t feed you or help pay the bills anyway.
I have a emergency fund already set up and it will last me quite a while, so admittedly, I’m probably better off than most people. I already met with a recruiter to look for potential jobs while I am also looking. You know how it is, my new full time job is to find another full time job.
Anywho, when it comes to expenses, I’ve got that down to no fun things. Only food, utilities, rent, and other necessities for cleanliness. I guess what I’m asking is if there is anything else I could do to make this process smoother? And I already promised myself that if I can’t find a job within 2-3 months that I will join the Air Force like my brother in law keeps telling me to do and have my career there.
Also, this last question is more of a legal one, but this whole thing seems pretty “wrong” to me. For starters, I live in Tennessee if that helps. I started back in June of 2017 and was laid off March of 2018. We had a new hire join our department in January 2018. She would still be in her 90 day probation. If anyone was to be laid off, wouldn’t it have been her since I technically have seniority over her? I don’t know, seems weird that I was chosen to be let go when she could leave without any chance of her to really do anything. Is there any thing I can do about that?
