I am 23, and this is my first time dealing with an insurance claim. My 2016 Kia Forte recieved flood engine damage from hurricane Irma. I filed a claim for my insurance company. But every time I had called them for an update. He was "busy" or "out to lunch".
After 2 months of calling everyday with the same answers they finally inspect it and get it sent to the shop if my choice. My mechanic says he just needs to wait for the check. It takes a month for then to recieve the check. Now it turns out they never inspected the inside of the non working vehicle. I reported the car was not working. Yet they said I only told them to inspect the outside damage? Bullshit.
This has been 4 months in. I have been without a vehicle and been forced to make payments on this car every month. I had to skip school this semester because of it. They said they will send someone else to inspect the vehicle. A month and a half later. I am told the car is totaled. It took 5 and a half months to be told the car was totaled. Now after signing papers with the repair shop. They came and took the vehicle. But now a couple weeks later I get a phone called saying "Now it might be fixable". That the engine can be fixed if the ac works. That they need to re inspect it?
This company is based in LA and I live in Florida. They have 72 reviews on google with 70 being negative 1 star reviews with worse stories. Is there anything I can do to recieve compensation or recieve help? Is this normal for an insurance company? My life has been hell without a vehicle, and I do not make enough to get another car while having to keep the payments to this undrivable vehicle up.
