I'm 38 and have zero saved money. After my divorce and being sick and unemployed I had to withdrawal and close out my previous 401ks. Which amounted to less than 12k.

I've also had a drastic change in income. I went from making 85k a year to making just over 24k a year, but it's a job.

What really kills me is that after child support is taken out of my check what I'm left with puts me below the federal poverty line. The state is still garnishing my wages like I still make 85k a year, but I'm working on getting that changed. Besides that's a whole other story.

Regardless of the fact that I'm below the federal poverty line it doesn't mean I can't save. I can only afford $25 a check into my Charles Schwab Roth IRA, but it's better than nothing, and I won't always be in my current predicament.

I guess the point of my post is that saving is a way of life and a mindset. One that I'm trying to strive to keep. Thank you /r/personalfinance.
