Growing up my mother always told me to buy the cheapest wipers because wipers are "expensive". After having to replace them every 1-3 months, I eventually got frustrated and decided I would try to see if getting a good pair of wipers would save me money in the long wrong. I got those wipers about 3 years ago and they're still going strong today and completely reliable. I live in Wisconsin where they go through a lot of harsh weather changes. I couldn't be happier with them. While yes, they're about half the price of a good pair of wipers, the good pair of wipers will last much longer. If /r/Frugal has taught me anything, it's that frugal doesn't always mean the cheapest option - it's the smart option.
Just to do some math: cheap wipers cost me about $15 and my good pair was about $40. I'll use 3 months as the average lifespan for the cheap pair over the course of 3 years. It's already clear the winner here, but here it is anyway:
(12 / 3) * 15 = 60
$60 / year for cheap wipers
60 * 3 = 180
3 represents how many years I've had the good wipers.
Over 3 years I would have had to spend $180 on wipers in 3 years.
180 - 40 = 140
I have saved $140 over the course of 3 years! They're still going strong, so the savings will only go up!
Definitely worth the investment in my opinion.
