I'm not sure I have the language to properly ask this. I have a real-life object with a cross-section, it's the backboard of my bed, and it looks something like this.I want to get a 1:1 trace of that top part, so I can print it, plop it onto a piece of wood, and cut the inverse out on a bandsaw - so I can mount the piece of wood onto my backboard. The backboard is attached to posts on both ends, and I'm not 100% sure how it's fastened, but it looks like I can't disassemble it, so the cross-section I want is captive between these two boards, I can't just press a piece of paper to it and trace. Is there any clever trick to getting an accurate trace? My naive suggestion is to do something with modeling clay, mold it onto the shape in 2-3 short pieces that have some overlap and trace them. Then combine, matching the overlapping bits.Just hoping that I'm not the first to be stumped by this and that there's a clever solution. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2yhLaKw
