Here's a picture from right after my kid cleaned it up on the first day he used it!

My son is 3. I work from home (writer) and he's in daycare a few days a week and home with me a few days a week. Lately the days at home have been a struggle because he's bored and restless. We decided that it was time to turn his play area into a preschool area. (Note: He still has plenty of play space.)

  • The table and chairs were $25 from IKEA. Bought them last year, finally assembled them this weekend.

  • The bins and the puzzle rack and a bunch of the other stuff was $32 total from a school supply warehouse moving sale.

  • The bench was "free" - tossed in with our dining room table we just bought from craigslist.

  • The rug was $7 at a thrift store this spring.

  • The educational toys and games I've picked up over the past year or two at thrift stores for $1-3 each. There are more than in the pictures, they're in a bin in the garage.

Here's another picture, from when I first tidied it up, before I put more toys in the rotation bin. Apologies for the mess in the rest of the house!

I'm calling it the hundred dollar preschool. Close enough - although I doubt we actually spent that much in total! My son is SO HAPPY with it and I'm thrilled with how nice it looks and how much fun he's having with his "lessons."
