Hello, I am a college student (21) looking to get a basic credit card to build my credit up. I had some huge medical bills that got sent to collections, though they've all been taken care of and did not really give me bad credit, though when I was in the hospital, I did have to pay a previous school loan. That became closed and shows as derogatory on credit karma. Other loans I was able to make income based (which was 0, thus making them require $0 a month, so they were supposedly making my credit go up, because even though I owed 0, the amount was technically payed monthly causing me to gain some credit) So my score is about 660 on transunion, and shows as 560 on equifax (using credit karma). I applied for the capital one platinum card because I receive offers in the mail, but was denied because I don't have an income. I do have a lot of money saved up and use my debit card a bit, so I was hoping to just use these small amounts on a credit card and build credit. I have read up on how to properly use a cc, don't spend what you don't have and always pay the full amount once you get a statement so you don't accrue interest or late payments, etc.... but I was wondering if there are any credit cards that I could actually get approved for with no income. I get plenty of financial aid for school, and have a lot of money saved from when I used to work summers, but I haven't worked in a couple years but should be set to next summer.
I was interested in applying for the discover it student card. I just need opinion if it is even possible to get a card without an income nowadays, even though I have plenty of money saved up and don't spend what I don't have. No outstanding debt. Sorry if this is messy or if I left out any important information. Please advise!
