So basically, me and my girlfriend are going to be moving to York in September because she's going to Uni and I'm leaving with her, we were looking around for student accommodation because her dad was pressuring her into living somewhere like that and emailed a bunch of places. A place replied and said that we could, and the place looked pretty great so we decided cool, yeah, nice.
After a lot of talking over costs and working out budgeting and the like we made the plunge and payed the deposit of 350 pounds, to which we were told there's a 14 day change of mind policy.
Fast forward about a month, we get an email saying that they made a mistake and that the rent should actually be higher than what we've been shown due to dual occupancy costs, we already had to start saving but there's no way we could afford to live with these new higher costs.
I tell them that we can't live there anymore due to the higher prices and they say that we can't cancel, and if we cant find a new tenant to take the room, we or our guarantor will have to pay the full 10k for the year? Obviously we can't do this while living elsewhere and going to Uni and actually surviving so I told them this, and they said in this case they'd have to start their debt collection process which involves legal teams and debt collectors?
Nobody agreed to be our guarantor or signed anything, so the brunt of all this would fall on us, so I'm just very confused and scared at what to do and where this will all go.
Sorry if this isn't the right place for this, if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
