So my fiancée is dead set on this specific style of centerpiece for our wedding. I have already attempted to recreate the stand, but I've run into a couple issues. I've got to make ~15 stands (excluding the flowers). The following is what I did on my first attempt: The stand was made from a 3'x1.25" dowel and two 2'x1/4" sections of dowel. For the base plate I used a pre-cut 11"x8" MDF plaque. The 1/4" dowels cross through holes drilled in the 3' dowel in a horizontal X near the top to support the flower wreath. I drilled a hole in the center of the base plate and attached the stand via a screw. This set up was to test how difficult it would be to make these and it seemed to be sturdy enough. Next, my fiancée wanted me to paint the whole thing with glitter gold spray paint. I did this with multiple coats, but the wood seemed to soak up the paint, especially the edges of the MDF plaque. So my first question is, do I need to use some kind of primer prior to spray painting? Or would something else help? Now, my fiancée wants circular bases for the stands. I plan to make 12" diameter circles from a similar density MDF sheet using this technique. How difficult will this be to make 15 of them and to add a beveled edge like the prefab plaque? I plan to use the appropriate router bit to get the beveled effect. Any help or tips you can give would be amazing. Thanks in advance! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2p9OQKv
