One of the most expensive things to buy is meat. Meat is one of those things that goes on sale periodically but when the prices are insanely low, it is the best thing to stock up on.

Most retailers rely on the fact that most people either don't know how to save meat, or don't have the space with which to save it properly.

First, having the knowledge of how to properly save meat is crucial, even if it is only for a limited time, like in a standard refrigerator and the limited space it provides. You can look up how to properly preserve meat online (it is a simple process). Doing this will help you out tremendously from a frugal perspective.

Second, is having a means of storing the meat for a longer period of time, and that's where a separate freezer comes in. Being able to have the room to keep multiple items on hand via freezing is crucial to eating frugal.

However, rotating stock is key here. Oldest first, newest last.

Sometimes you may actually run out of stock on something from time to time, but that is rare. More often than that, I find myself turning down deals on meat simply because I have no way of storing it, not because the deal is too good to pass up.

This can also be applied to fruits and veggies, although those are much more easily stored (and bought) in cans and jars.

Looking for deals is the easy part. Figuring out how to properly store and truly take advantage of the deals is the hard part.
