It's a $1200 bill I can't really pay and I have Aetna's best insurance plan through my work. Why in the world would my wife be committed because she was a danger to herself and then this not count as an emergency especially because they wouldn't let me transfer her. She was signed in on a Georgia 1013 so it definitely was an "emergency" (I brought her into the hospital myself, but an ambulance transfered her later while still under a 1013). Do I need to speak with the hospital or my insurance company about this? My insurance already said it's simply not covered because it wasn't an emergency, that's what I got from their e-mail response (I will be calling soon)

Do I need the hospital to tell my insurance it was an emergency? Do I tell the hospital I'm not paying it? I don't understand anything about insurance. If insurance won't cover it I've always read there's a way to negotiate with the hospital? If I have to pay out of pocket will it at least count towards my maximum out of pocket?

Thanks guys!
