So, as the title says, I'm leaving my marriage with nothing but debt and wrecked credit. My husband came back from a deployment a little over 2 years ago a different person and as much as I tried, he doesn't want the marriage anymore, and in the process did a lot of damage.

Such as, took out 3 different credit cards in my name, totaling $15,000, without my knowing, maxed them all out, and just stopped paying on them.

He has drained our savings, switched his direct deposit to another bank account and told me he was going to "take care of the bills"  and so I was giving most of my check to him (I know, I know. But anything to avoid the fights), but often coming home to different utilities having been shut off, or final notices on the door.

After a year of this, the stress has not only affected me mentally but it took a toll on me physically, finally forcing me to have to resign me from my job (I'm a teacher) last month.

The kicker was waking up Sunday morning to find my car, the only thing I have, had been repossessed. He "forgot" to make some payments apparently.

So, now I'm waiting for the bank to call back with the exact amount I owe them. My parents have graciously offered to pay the reinstatement balance for me to get my car back, under the condition that I pack it up and drive home (a few states away) and leave this all behind. They're offering me 1 year rent free, no obligations, to get on my feet and try and fix this mess. Of course I'll be working as soon as possible, rebuilding a savings account, etc.

But where do I start? Should I try to negotiate with creditors who haven't been paid? Do I file bankruptcy? I just feel so hopeless. How do I even recover from this?
