About five years ago I was hired at a major defense contractor as test technician. I was actively pursuing my BSEE and had my associates. Within less than one year my skills were recognized by some engineers and management and I was offered a job as a production engineer. The manager that got me the job jumped through hoops to get me the engineer title without the degree. I kept on pushing and proved that the right decision was made and within another year I was promoted one pay grade and given a new role developing software for production test. Since then I have gotten top reviews from my new manager. This years review I was told that I WILL get a promotion within the year, but not having the degree might stop HR from approving it. I have continued at night school and have only 4 courses left. Unfortunately, those courses are only offered in the fall and it could potentially take me 2 years to actually finish it.
Do you think HR can block this from happening? Is there anything that I can do to increase my chances? Also, I have over 12 years of industry experience and 11 years in the military, active and national guard. Thanks.
