I’m so upset right now. If it’s matters I’m 15, I have a work permit and have been working for 3-4 months at this fast food place that’s so shady.
My friend worked alongside me (15, worked for 5-6 months). She was missing 30 something hours and told the manager she wasn’t gonna work until she got it payed. I’ve been working and replacing her shifts, and also replacing these other two guys shifts who haven’t worked because they are missing hours (not sure if they quit, but one filed a lawsuit). My friend told me a past worker also got fired and when he tried to sue for his missing hours he lost (her words).
I saw the schedule posted today and I had all days on except I think Friday. I messaged her saying I wasn’t gonna work all week, I’m sorry, but I’m still missing 9 hours. It might’ve not been a good route since she later said “ok, then you no longer work here”
I texted her back 5 minutes later asking if she’s for real, telling her I’ll show her proof and how I was willing to work some days but not all when I’m also missing hours. She only responded yes to me asking if she was for real. I’ve then told her more stuff explaining why I can’t (school work, my grades aren’t as good as before) and she’s left me on delivered.
I literally talked to her today after a shift. She’s doing this to me and I can’t feel but help guilty and resentful since my friend hasn’t come in since like 2 weeks and she’s not fired. I don’t know what to do? Forget the nine hours? Fight for my job? I live in Illinois btw no clue what labor laws there are.
