Unsure if this is the right community but looking for options to help in this situation. My mother (50s) has terrible teeth and is in constant pain due to infections and having trouble chewing due to missing some back teeth. She went to the dentist yesterday and they decided on a treatment plan to extract everything and give her a full set of dentures for around $6k to $10k, two prices based on bone graft or no bone graft.
She absolutely cannot pay this outright and her dental insurance only covers $1k per year. She applied for care credit and got denied because her credit is terrible. I have no idea where all her money goes. She filed for bankruptcy in 2015, things were okay for a while I guess, then I found out last year she’s taking out payday loans and in a massive hole again. I know how much she makes, with stepdad’s social security and their roommate’s financial assistance, and I know how much her household bills are. Theoretically she should be able to afford everything with a bit leftover. Hence, idk where all her money goes. She doesn’t have any savings or retirement to help with an unexpected large expense like this.
Ever since I turned 16 and got a job, she has regularly borrowed money from me, sometimes paying me back, sometimes not. (I’ve now grown up and got enough therapy that I say no if I can’t afford it and don’t expect to get it back if I can). So onto where I need advice. She asked me to apply for the care credit so she could get approved for the dental care with her assurance she’ll pay everything. I know I would get approved and I could afford it if I had to pay if she didn’t. But I absolutely do not want to take out debt in my name for her, that’s a hard no (and why I included the background). But I also don’t want to see my mother suffering.
Are there any other options available to get financial assistance for her dental care? In Texas.
