I’ve used CPAs for the last several years but have been really disappointed in their seemingly low effort. “Give me all these forms filled out and I’ll submit them for you” kind of attitudes. Basically just glorified document collectors that run it through their software and charge me a fee. While they don’t seem incompetent and do sometimes have helpful answers, I’m curious what people with a a good chunk of money do to truly plan for taxes or create a tax strategy. Is it just trial and error until you find a good CPA or is there a different title other than CPA that I should be looking for? I’m not mega wealthy but have 5 rentals, make 200k per year between my wife and I, and make more money on the side from investments and want to really strategize on how to minimize taxes legally, but all the CPAs I’ve come across don’t seem to be proactive about how I can minimize my tax burden.
