So my dilemma is simple. I'm very burnt out from work and feel depressed, anxious, stressed, overworked (even though I barely get anything done, kind of like running in quicksand), etc. Everything feels like a pile-on right now, even things I used to find enjoyable and easy. My employer (a tech company) kindly approved for me to take 1 month of paid mental health leave where I get full pay and stock and benefits. It doesn't cost me any vacation days.
However, I am anticipating possibly getting a very good offer soon. I plan to quit my job either now or after 1 month of leave, and then start work again after resting up. I don't have any intention of going back to my current company after the leave. If I quit now, I would just rest for 1-3 months unpaid. If I don't get the offer I'm anticipating, it doesn't change my plans to quit (or take leave) at all.
Some friends have said that I shouldn't take the 1 month of mental health leave if I plan on having another job lined up, and others said it's a corporation so we shouldn't feel bad using our benefits. I do worry about what my coworkers and managers think because they are very kind to me.
What should I do? It's free money but costs social capital.
