Hi, I am currently 18 years old and majoring in finance and computer science. I have a few questions that I would like to be answered. It would be of great help if experienced and older individuals could provide me with their insights and advice. The questions:
- I am interested in investing. I genuinely enjoy researching stocks and would like to expand my knowledge. What books/podcasts can I read/listen to become more knowledgeable? So far, I have read The Psychology of Money, Rich Dad Poor Dad, and The Intelligent Investor.
- How much should I have saved by now? I have approx. $2k AUD and will have approx. $10k AUD invested into stocks (Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, S&P500) by the time 2023 ends. This is because I live with my parents (typical Asian household) and plan to for several years. Furthermore, with this saved money, should I do something else or just continue to invest in stocks? Ps. I know a lot of people will tell me that "You are young, you should travel". Don't worry, I am not putting everything I earn into my portfolio and plan to spend some money on traveling to countries.
- I cannot do the typical "9-5" job and follow the "rat race". I know some people that do, and some of those people are happy, but I am just saying I cannot do it. Thus, I plan to work till 30, saving around 60% of all the money I earn, putting it into my portfolio, letting compound interest do its magic, and then retiring. Any ideas on how I can accelerate this? Or just any other tips/advice.
- Would really appreciate your insights. Thanks : )
