What's going on here? Mostly i'm unsure if this is a scam.

Background: years ago, my wife and I were involved in a ice-storm related accident, severely damaging the entire rear of our car but was drive-able last we saw it. Our insurance (progressive) determined the car was a total loss after estimates came in. They payed us for the car and took it, and we purchased a new one. We've since moved states and have no other property history in the previous state.

Today, 5 years later, we received a letter from the state treasury stating there is unclaimed property previously owned by Progressive that is available for us to claim. No other details are provided, except for our name as a previous owner registered at our previous address.

I've checked the claim on the state website and it's legit... I can't imagine how this could be a scam given the legitimacy of the letter and confirmation on the treasury website, but why would an insurance company abandon a car they've bought out? I imagine the car, though drivable last I saw it, probably isn't able to go on a cross-country trip, so I'm not sure I want it towed to me. But has anyone else experienced something like this? Is there any value in claiming this car and trying to sell it for parts?
