The holidays have been going pretty well outside of some family illnesses to deal with, but something happened at our NYD party that brought the holiday season to a weird end.
We were discussing their resolutions for the new year, one of the cousins announced that her resolution was to be more frugal and to save more money. This led to a discussion around cost savings measures, I threw out the example of me choosing to buy the Pink Dove Deodorant Spray instead of the type I normally purchase because I was able to get them at essentially $.50/ea vs ~$7
Some members of the family were concerned that using personal hygiene products marketed to the opposite sex might open one up to being teased or bullied by their peers. Then the disagreement became heated, with some accusing others of being "preachy", others were poking fun at me for using "womens" deodorant and the really devise, while the Cousin eddie's of the family were just outright calling me a f****t.
I'd estimate that while the majority of folks did agree that it's all just marketing, there were the "cousin eddies" of the family adamant that they'd go without or pay extra to not have to use "womens" deodorant.
Everyone agrees this is absurd, right?
