I'm looking to protect my portfolio from inflation and from market crashes. I have reasons to believe its going to be a bad decade for stocks so I'm looking into alternatives. My thinking about commodities is that while commodities will crash together with the economy (since demand will go to zero), eventually they will go right back up since we can't go without food or oil. Moreover, there are reasons to believe technology hasn't and won't make stuff like oil or food cheaper any time soon and in fact growing populations and climate change are only making this stuff more expensive.
What are you thoughts on being long commodities?
