Hello,

If 5 people are equal renters on a lease (no sub-lease), is it fair that 1 of those 5 people would pay $0 in rent because they decided to take on the running of the house?

4/5 of us recently moved in and realized we're paying 100% of the rent. The 5th person is justifying it because she says it was a full-time job finding us 4 as roommates.

I don't see why we need to reimburse her for time she spent before we signed on. Now that we're all here, I'm struggling to see what all needs to be done to justify her having free rent going forward. In this first month, the only thing that comes to mind was that our garbage disposal broke and she called the landlord to come fix it.

My thinking is that we as a group can decide on a dollar amount for what running the house is worth and then discount that from her equal part of the rent.

Can someone else, maybe someone with landlord experience, change my mind and validate her free rent?
