Hi, so I have a checking account and a savings account with a credit union. I get large refund (financial aid) checks and I'm not sure whether to place it in a checking account or savings or maybe ask them to not send me them. I don't spend too much as I get fed living at home with parents, I usually buy food when they are gone and the groceries here are depleted, when I don't like what they've made or when I am not home(campus cafeteria during school hours or shops nearby). My other second biggest expense has been buying clothes. I have placed most of the pell grant checks in my checking account and I had a covid emergency check in my savings. I'm wanting to find a way to separate my personal expenses unrelated to school so I can learn to manage my money but since I do a lot of online shopping as compared to using cash in person, I need to often use a debit card when buying anything online. The problem is debit cards are linked to checking. I want to actually save some of what I've made so far from a few babysitting gigs yet also use those savings on personal expenses. I also worry about it seeming like I am spending too much financial aid inappropriate. I'm thinking to try to get paypal balance-debit card? Will this card link to my regular checking account or can I just leave whatever is sent to paypal to my balance? I use surveyjunkie and just click accept payment when it arrives. Are there fees that might make paypal cards not worth to get at all? Thanks in advance, I hope I was able to communicate my concerns well!
