I’m new to the workforce (F23) and have been in my current position for 11 months. A coworker in my same position put in their 2 weeks notice. Their job position (same title and description as mine) has been posted with a higher pay than I currently make (about 3% more) I’m due for my 1 year evaluation soon and was already planning on asking for the 3% merit raise. Should I increase the percentage based on the new posting? Is asking for your positions updated salary “standard practice” in the workforce? Should I apply for the position? What should I say during my meeting with managers?
Side note: Yes, I am applying for other jobs and know that is the best way to increase your salary. However, for the time being I’m curious to learn more about corporate standards as this is my first adult job.
