I'm moving to a new company, and my benefits won't start till 10/1. My current company is telling me that I can just go without Health Insurance and if anything happens I can pay for COBRA and it will retroactively cover any medical costs. If, for example, I got hit by a bus over the next month (while I'm in between health insurance plans).
Is this correct/legit? Should I pay for COBRA up front, or just pay for it if I need it later on?
