I come to you guys because you’d give a sound advice on what would be better for the long run rather than just being cheap.
Both our AC and furnace are 19 years old. The AC hasn’t been cooling the second floor at all, we had a technician come to clean the coil and it’s cooling better but our hot air return is not working and we’ll need another technician to clean the ducts. We don’t know if there’s any other hidden problems we’ll need to fix on top of these two.
The people that lived in this house before we moved really didn’t take care of anything, their dog would pee on the unit outside everyday and the outer casing is rotting because of it and exposing the inner works.
To replace both AC and furnace it would cost ~16k, but it would be a more energy efficient unit.
Should we replace since they might crap out soon anyways and not have to worry about it during the summer? Or keep paying for repairs and see how long we can stretch it out?
Thank you!
