I came to the US with my family 7 years ago, we’re immigrants so both of my parents work min wage jobs here and can’t support me so I went to college and dormed there because we lived in a studio and I couldn’t stay there and study. So I’m stuck with 30k in loans under my name and even more under my dad’s (which I’m responsible for because I promised, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to go to college). This was even after 25k/yr scholarship. To make things better, I have a $10k bill in medical debt collections from going to the ER for 3 hours that didn’t turn out to be anything concerning. Anyway. I live in Austin and I recently got a job in healthcare in which I have experience and my pay is $17 an hour. I didn’t want to accept the offer because I think that that’s just not livable but my mom said it’s better than no job so I took it. I use my boyfriend’s car to go to work. I have rent money paid with student loans up until july and that’s when I need to pay on my own, as well as get my own car. I seriously don’t want to live like my parents did I want to break the generational poverty and live comfortably. My bf makes about 2k a month and so do I. 1 bedroom apartments are around 1,500 here. With car, credit card and student loan payments, will we be able to get by? I’m really worried about my future. I’m eventually going to go to gradschool for my desired profession (PA) but for now life seems too difficult for me :/
