As I understand it, plumbing is a job that is in demand in most major metros. It's a big reason that I got into it. I currently have $15k saved and am aiming for $20k before I make the move. I'm currently saving 40% of my income. My only debt is a $300 monthly car payment on a $10,000 car loan. I make $65,000 a year.

I made a large spreadsheet of States median rents being subtracted from the median salary for a plumber in that state to get a very rough idea of disposable income for a plumber. At the top of the list was Midwest states, at the very bottom was California. Given this fact, and the fact that housing in my area likely won't get more affordable any time soon, I I've come to the conclusion that moving to a lower cost of living city is my best bet.

So that's my plan. Am I overlooking something significant, or would I actually be able to afford to have my own place if I moved to a lower cost of living city out of state?
