I had posted about my situation a few days ago.
Yesterday, I met with the potential new employer and they are willing to match my current salary. It’s not a raise but taking the job means I can leave the oil industry, work fully remote, learn new skills and obtain certifications. I’m really really hoping this new gig would open doors in the future.
At my current job, I will always be doing the same stuff. My current company is also struggling a bit. It’s possible business picks back up with oil prices so high now but who knows.
I honestly need a change and a new challenge. I’ve been at this job for 9.5 years. I’m hoping taking the new job and eventually living in a new city (Austin) will pay off but I realize it’s a risk.
The other option is to keep looking for other opportunities but my job experience is so niche that, in a way, I feel like this company is taking a chance on me. I may be selling myself short here but anyway, just sharing my thoughts.
The big pluses for me are:
- remote work
- vertical growth (based on what I’ve seen so far)
- job not limited to a single industry
I’m 33yo and single with no kids. Does it make sense to take this job hoping that it will open up doors in the future?
I feel like if I don’t make a move now, it will get much harder to do so later in life.
Thanks for reading
