I've been following this sub for a while now and while I would not say that I am the most frugal person out there, I still do look carefully where and how I spend my money. Recently I managed to do something very frugal the other day: I managed to repair a broken waffle maker!

This thing was a gift from my girl and it was actually quite expensive (over 100 bucks), as it had exchangeable "irons" (for the lack of a better word) to make either waffles, sandwhiches or to grill meat. After about three months of use, something broke inside when I was trying to insert one of the irons and it would't get hot anymore. Unfortunately we couldn't find the receipt to return it.

I refused to throw it away and after it was sitting for a year or so in the cupboard I finally motivated myself to try to fix it. Lo and behold, what looked like a sturdy metal appliance from outside was made of cheap plastic inside. There was some sort of sliding mechanism that was broken. I glued it back together, but realized that it had little leeway to actually move correctly, and that was probably the cause of it breaking in the first place. With the help of some nail files, I filed off enough to make the part move smoothly again. Put everything back together, and voila, it works again like a charm.

First waffle tasted fantastic, and I am very proud of myself.

Do you have any stories to share where you repaired something successfully that would have ended up in the trash otherwise? I`d love to hear it.
