I (24M) am a recent college graduate with a bachelors in Robotic Engineering and a Masters in Engineering. I was looking for a job for about 2 months after college, and took the first offer that I received from my current employer.

I am a contractor for this company making $26 an hour (~$55,000/year) constructing and documenting the construction of server racks for their customers. No benefits. Not a full fledged employee but working full time.

The new job offer is an entry level software developer job that pays $39 hourly (~$80,000) with full benefits and an $8,000 sign on bonus. I think that I would enjoy the work, and it would be more white collar than my current employer.

The people at my current job have been super nice taking time to train me, get me admin access to all of their internal systems, and make me a part of their group. I feel bad about leaving my current employer after so little time, but I also feel that not taking this opportunity would be a major dumb move based on the numbers alone.

To make matters more interesting my fiancée (24F) and I are currently renting for $1,000 a month and want to buy a house soon, and it would be pretty difficult in the short term with my current salary.

I'm thinking that I will let my current employer know and see what they can offer to make my current situation more financially enticing. Let me know your thoughts.
