My wife was driving my car and was hit by a driver that ran a red light. She’s fine but my cars two side air bags deployed (the passenger side). The passenger door is crumpled in pretty bad but otherwise the car looks driveable to me.
Since I only had liability coverage my insurance is putting the onus on me to handle all of this. I could not come to the accident scene in time and my wife, understandably, was a bit shocked and confused so she didn’t get the other drivers name and insurance. But it is in the police report…which I can pay $12 to get in a few more days. I called the police office to get it but they told me to wait and get the report. Meanwhile my car is probably racking up fees at the tow yard. Should I get it out and get it home and then wait to see if the other persons insurance is going to pay to repair it or pay me for the value of the car?
Is the other persons insurance going to play games if I’ve managed to move my vehicle from the tow yard before they decide what they’re going to do?
My car is probably worth $4 to $6k so the proportion of the tow company fees to the vehicle might get out of hand quickly and I’m not sure how damming the police report is for the other driver. So I’m concerned about leaving it there and then not getting reimbursed by the other drivers insurance.
