I love the company I work for as it has great benefits and my coworkers are very nice. I just don’t get paid enough for my role though. I started this job right out college a few years making $41K and about 11 months into it, a coworker levels above me quit and trained me in two days to do their job. This occurred around my 1st annual review, where my old manager told me I would not receive a raise. My old manager let me take over the coworkers role while I continued the role I was hired to do, but did put in paperwork to HR for a promotion. HR, then offered me a lateral promotion with a very small raise to increase my salary to $45K with no negotiation and a title change.
I accepted the offer because I wanted to build my resume and looked at it as an opportunity to learn more about my company & to gain experience.

Around the same time I received the lateral promotion, my company merged with another (my company took over the other) and my old manager went to another department, so my team got a new manager. Last year at my annual review with my new manager when I asked for a raise, they said they have no control over giving me a raise as HR handles raises and promotions. They also told me they have no idea what I make nor did they want to know. There seems to be some miscommunication on how my company pays because when I was hired I was told that my old manager offered a certain dollar amount, but my new manager said they don’t have control over as HR handles pay.

Now after working here for 3 years, I have really don’t see any career growth available for my role at all. I’ve never really had a promotion as I view that “lateral” promotion just as a little bonus and a way for the company to not have to hire someone else to pay them what my previous coworker was making of $80K. I really only decided to work here to gain work experience after graduating college a few years ago. Since then I have started my Master’s.

I’ve recently started looking into other companies and I have interviews lined up with other companies that said it would be no problem offering my desired range of $60-$65K! Should I leave my company for more $? I would be making 30% more.
