I need the help of someone who knows more about credit than me. My scores have been on the climb from a rocky 500 a few years ago after a very long struggle with addiction and a few years in jail.
Since getting out, I've been slowly working on my credit, disputing information, upgrading secured cards, paying down debt, etc.
My scores been holding around 709 for awhile now, hasn't dropped at all in the past two and a half years. All of a sudden today, I logged on to credit karma, and my TransUnion was still at 709 but my Equifax dropped by 98 POINTS. I'm devastated. I was supposed to buy (finance) a car this coming Monday and I don't know how that's gonna happen now.
How do I get more info on what happened? All it says under "what's changed" in credit karma is that a capital one account had "remarks added to account." I don't know what that means or how to fix it, or why it would cause my score to drop so savagely.
The capital one account in question has been closed for around 6 years. If I pull up my account info for capital one on credit karma from both before and after this 98 point drop, the details are exactly the same. Since nothing's changed, there's nothing for me to dispute. Any ideas on how to get to the bottom of this? Will it take a very long time again to climb back up that 98 points?
