I’m currently paying off $40K worth of credit card debt between me and my wife that we racked up over the last 5 years of reckless and stupid spending. The second half of 2021 has been a transformative time for us as we decided to get serious about paying off our credit card debt and be CC debt free once and for all.
I’m the sole breadwinner in the family so far as she’s in college for the next 3.5 years but, gratefully, I have a pretty good salary of $120,000 and our rent and utility costs all come down to roughly 20% of my gross monthly income.
Over the past 5 months, I’ve managed to pay off $9K of the debt and still have $40K left. $5K of that is 0% interest until July 2022.
But paying off this debt hasn’t been easy…
I’m constantly doing basic arithmetic and checking my Excel spreadsheet to see how much debt I have left to pay off and coming up all sorts of different strategies to pay it off faster. It has sort of become like a game for me — one that’s exciting but also annoying at the same time.
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their credit card payoff success story just so that I get some inspiration and stay motivated.
I’m open to advice as well! Thanks a lot in advance.
