Long story short my wife got pregnant during the pandemic, the summer before we moved for me to attend dental school. She was laid off from her job at the beginning of covid and was on unemployment this year.

We had the baby in March, beautiful healthy little girl.

Here's the issue.

From saving unemployment payments from pandemic we were able to afford the health insurance provided through the school. Now however, insurance for the 3 of us is $10,000 for the year. I can only increase my loans to cover my portion, which is about $2500. We drained most of our savings getting through the first year of dental school and paying medical bills from our daughter's birth. We won't be able to afford the 8k for health insurance.

My wife is still collecting unemployment and can get the increased payments until end of August. In August, she will begin to go back to work 1-2 days a week however that won't be enough (her job is only $15 an hour). If she wants to work more, that means putting our daughter in daycare which is extremely expensive. This means if I wife worked fulltime, it would basically only be enough to pay for daycare meaning she's working for free. We both agreed that it doesn't make sense for her to work essentially for nothing.

What are our options? Would private loans be the way to go? I get federal loans and grad plus loans but that only is supposed cover MY living expenses, not those of my family.

I thought about making an appointment with financial aid at my school and explain my situation and see if they have any ideas.

Thoughts?
