I made a stupid decision and I'm trying trying to see if there is any recourse.

I owned my local community from a semester from back in 2017 and it was sent to collections. I used part of my stimulus and tax returns to pay it off. I called the school and they said to pay through the collections office. I did so and went to enroll and they said "It will take 30-60days for the payment to clear since you paid via ACH".

Long story short I needed to enrolled that semester so I called the school and asked them what would happen if I paid school directly (which was now an option since I got readmitted). They said that they would release the hold right then so I can enroll and when the collectors reported that I paid them the school would issue me a refund.

However, now its been 2 weeks. I've contacted the collection and they reported it paid to the school two days after I paid and the school still hasn't credited me. I've called and the school and they are playing ignorant saying they would refund me. Any advice?

Tl;dr: Paid both collection office and original creditor, trying to see if I can get refund from one.
