(I’m in NJ if that makes any difference) To make a long story short my bf’s mom is threatening to claim him and our son on her tax return because SHE wants the child tax credit and more money back, and she wants to get at us because she’s a spiteful person. I just wanna know what’s possible here.
Some info - my boyfriend was 17 for half of 2020, turned 18 in may, and was claimed as a dependent in the beginning of the year. Our son was born in May. BF worked and made around 8k last year. He legally lives with his mother, our child legally lives with me and my mother.
So, with this info, can my boyfriend’s mother claim him or our son on her tax return?
