We had a daughter just over a year ago. I’m not gonna lie, she was completely unexpected, and we weren’t in the position to be having a child at all. We’ve struggled financially for the last two years (since we found out) trying to take care of her and keep ourselves afloat. I’m a manager at a fast food restaurant, and she does at home babysitting under the table anywhere from 10-30 hours a week. About a week ago, my SO’s brother bought a house. We were very happy for them. He had had a handful of kids when he was around our age, and knows what it was like to deal with having a kid when you’re younger. He’s 32 now, and just buying his first house. For the last 12 years, he’s lived in their great grandmother’s house who had passed away back in 2009. It’s paid off, but not in amazing condition. Their dad struck a deal with us- if we can help pay for half costs to make the house livable (around $4000) we can move into the house and live there as long as we’d like. We’re ecstatic! We’ll be saving nearly $1000 a month, putting it towards paying off credit card debt, student loans, and my car payment. I plan on using most of my tax return to help pay the costs on our end. We just can’t believe that we’re both so lucky to have the family that we do to help us get through this time.
