Background: Work for massive fortune 500 company with tens of thousands employees

I was in position A and primarily wanted to make a move to position B (slight promotion) because it was remote and a slight pay bump. Position A had a company car provided.

Upon accepting position B, I was assigned to a team and my new boss did not honor what the staffing department had told me about the remote portion. She expected me to work 50% of the time from the office which is a 1.5 hour round trip. I fought with staffing to either reassign me to another team where I could work remotely, or allow me to renegotiate the offer I had accepted. They declined both. I reached out to my previous boss, who I had a good working relationship with, but we butted heads occasionally. He said he would welcome me back with open arms due to how I increased my performance in what we thought was my last month. He said "People usually check out and don't hit goal, you did the opposite and that is a big reason why I'm putting my neck out and making this move."

Not only am I going back to my previous role, staffing also bumped my pay up about $4,000 a year. This situation, while stressful, illustrates why it is important to always give 100% and build relationships. You never know who you are going to need in the future.
