Not sure if this is the right sub for this question?
Bank: Wells Fargo
State: California
Amount : $100
So after noticing a ATM withdraw for $100 I did not recognize on my checking account and calling the fraud dept to report it my claim was blatantly denied. Their argument being that my card was NOT LOST or STOLEN and my wallet/ debit card were always in my possession. WF claims their debit cards CHIP/ RFDI info cannot be hacked or duplicated and that the withdraw was done using the physical card, meaning I made the withdraw. Even with the claim denial they issued me a new card.
Other than being at a hotel for 3 days (the same week of the withdraw) were I might have left the room 2 - 3 times for 15-20 min max leaving my wallet in the room no one other than me had access to my debit card. Nothing from my wallet was or is missing. I can only assume the card was somehow cloned in the hotel or hacked online.
The withdraw was done on a NON WF atm which the address comes back to as a Sushi Restaurant in a town about 20 min from my home town. I had not stepped foot or made any purchases in that town in months and I absolutely hate Sushi!
I know the withdraw is fraudulent but am at a loss on how to appeal or fight WF on the issue. Had the withdraw been for thousand+ dollars I would have been Fuk*ed without a way to pay my bills. Especially with the ongoing pandemic.
From googling I see that I'm not the first person to deal with this. I intend to change banks as this is the second time WF has left me hanging because of fraud. However I would like to get my $100 back not so much for the funds but more on principal.
For extra safety I went ahead and cancelled ALL my cards and ordered new ones as well as changed ALL my passwords throughout ALL my online accounts.
Would appreciate any and all help/tips!!!!!!
