Originally not with the intention of saving money but just because i like turkey, i bought a 7lb turkey crown after Thanksgiving last year, when the grocery stores drop the prices down from insane "lets profit off people wanting to buy turkeys" prices to normal prices. Even better is if you wait until after Christmas when they just want to sell off the last of the frozen turkeys so you can often find a good deal. Anyway, we bought this crown and threw it in the deep freeze where it kinda sunk to the bottom and got forgotten until we inventoried what we had and realized we no longer had to buy a turkey this year.

Look for recipes for your favourite sides that are not all consisting of fresh, highly perishable items. For example, this year i made an amazing green bean casserole using canned beans, the chicken stock that comes in a jar of powder that you mix up yourself, some half and half, bacon and of course the crispy fried onions. Not only is it easier, but considering that under the current circumstances fresh anything is more expensive because there are issues picking and shipping produce etc. Plus if you keep a well-stocked pantry, you might even already have the canned goods you need at home.

Anyway, those things helped us this year, we did still splurge a bit because holidays, but it really helped to keep things a bit more pared-down.
