So I’ll start out with my current job. I’m 31 and work as a mechanic in a European mom and pop shop. Work with 1 other mechanic, the owner himself as a mechanic/service writer and his son as a service writer. I been working on cars for close to 10 years now but only been employed at his place for 4 (first shop I’ve worked at). Currently get paid $35 an hour, health insurance and that’s it. 11 miles from home. Work M-F 8-5, no overtime and usually don’t leave until closer to 6.
I got a job offer at a local junkyard. 9 miles from home. I’d be manager/in charge of 2 guys and posting on eBay/online to sell. I would not be pulling parts or working on cars anymore. I would be Salary of $67k a year +3% commission on anything I sell and they only cover half of health insurance. I was told on a bad month my sales would be around $15k-$20k. I’d be working 5 full days a week 8-5 and half days Saturday 8-2.
My question is, how much am I loosing out by taking this offer money wise (even if I don’t count the commission)?
I’m interested in not working on cars anymore, started as a hobby but the people I work with are not the happiest bunch. It’s a toxic place. Also it’s taking a toll on the body.
Sorry if this is all confusing, first time poster and a little lost. Thank you all.
