A couple of months ago I was fighting the stack of teetering pots’ and pans’ lids when I realized that I could probably buy an inexpensive lid rack online. Sure enough, I bought one for $11 and it worked so well that I decided to think of other small frustrations that could be alleviated by an inexpensive purchase. So I bought a $10 Command hook for my robe that was always laying around, a $30 shower caddy for the bottles and tubes that fell in the tub every time I took a bath and a $10 garage sale plant stand for the plants that were all over my kitchen counter. I also got my knives professionally sharpened for a total of $15 and can’t believe how fun it is to cook with them again.
I really am striving for a simpler life and for the most part that means frugality, decluttering and anti-consumption. But these few, inexpensive items have made a big impact on my day-to-day peacefulness.
