Currently my wife and I both work for state agencies with pensions at the end of our careers. We are in the 22% tax bracket. I'm currently contributing to a Roth IRA and Roth 457 on the side. I'm hoping to retire in 12 years at the age of 52. I'm not looking to withdraw any money from my 457 after retirement as I think I would be able to live off of a modest pension and my wife will still be working full time. So my question is, would it be wise to do pre tax now and do a roth conversion later after retirement? Looking at the current tax structure, we will still be in the same tax bracket when I retire. TIA and let me know if more information is needed.
